Dear friends, on behalf of my dear friend Palestinian playwright & novelist Ahmed Masoud, I’m writing to invite you to four fantastic shows presented by PalArt Collective next week as part of the Shubbak Festival, 26th May – 1st June, at Theatro Technis, including the premiere of Ahmed’s new play, ‘Application 39’. Please come and support this fantastic programme of Palestinian theatre, comedy and dance. Many thanks & kind regards – Justin B. ![]() Dear All, I hope this finds you well. They often say to me, how do you have the energy to write? And the truth is that I don’t. I haven’t slept since the Israeli Genocide in Gaza started or eaten properly. How can I when my family there are literally starving at the moment. But I have to carry on writing, I have to tell our stories. It might not do anything now but it could prevent another genocide happening in the future. I wrote this play as a short story in 2018 published in the anthology Palestine+100. I described a genocide that takes place in Gaza in 2025, not knowing that I was prophetic then and I wish I wasn’t. I haven’t turned this into a stage play in the hope that it will provide some hope for the future that Gaza will be like any other city, able to host the Olympic Games and people can hear about it because of what it has to offer rather than the fact that it is constantly being bombed. This shouldn’t be our destiny or future. I am delighted to be presenting this play at the end of May in partnership with PalArt, Shubbak Festival and Amnesty International at the brilliant Theatro Technis. I would love to see you there if you are around. Please book your ticket here Buy tickets – Application 39 (for the Gaza 2048 Summer Olympics) – Theatro Technis and share with your friends and everyone. It would be amazing to see you there. Until we are all free. The night will continue with Peace de Resistance, a play that will make you wonder RESISTANCE AS COMEDY – or is it comedy as resistance? The first one is in all caps so it must be that. You can run from resistance but it will always catch up with you – as Sami Abu Wardeh finds out in Peace De Resistance: his second hour of comedy-theatre. Come and join his open call for mass civil disobedience, equitable distribution of hand puppets and more! Find out once and for all: can resistance actually be funny? We’ll also have Return to Palestine, by Micaela Miranda and the Freedom Theatre, a truly captivating show about Jad, a Palestinian born in America, who goes to Palestine for the first time in his life wanting to know more about his people and identity. Last but not least, Manjal, a dabke performance that will make you unable to sit still by the Tarweedeh Collective and Nabad Troupe! Huge thanks to Amnesty UK and Shubbak for supporting our festival to promote Palestinian artists. And a huge thank to YOU, we hope to see you there! Love, PalArt Collective |
