The Sun Does Shine – Double CD

In June 1988, Anthony Ray Hinton was convicted by an Alabama court of two murders he did not commit, in one of the most shockingly cynical miscarriages of justice in US history. He spent the next 28 years on Death Row, before all charges were dropped and he was released. The Sun Does Shine is a powerful new musical work by Harvey Brough, with words by Justin Butcher, inspired by the autobiography Hinton wrote about his long fight to prove his innocence. It is both a journey into the heart of darkness and an astonishing story of friendship, resilience and hope. It was performed at Hackney Empire, London with the approval of Hinton himself, who now campaigns for others betrayed by the criminal justice system. Vox Holloway’s recording, under the direction of the composer was released in 2022. To mark the release, Harvey Brough and Wills Morgan appeared on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune. Smudged Discs SMU612 Funded by Arts Council England.

Everything Must Change

Harvey was so thrilled with the arrangements that he created for the Everything Must Change concert that he asked our brilliant mastering engineer Pete Schwier to mix them. The result is a really fantastic CD of the great songs that we sung. All the VV III singers are named and those who sang on Keep your Eyes on the Prize will hear themselves singing. Requiem in Blue

Written by Harvey, this is the recording of a performance in Cambridge in 2010. Requiem in Blue is a profound and joyously uplifting work about love and remembrance, which feels celebratory and wholly appropriate as we emerge from these difficult times.

Thecla CD

THECLA, an oratorio written in 2008 by Harvey Brough, with libretto by James Runcie, was performed and recorded by Vox Holloway in March 2018. Based on the Apocryphal story of Thecla and the biblical writings of St Paul, it reflects a society challenged by new ideas that upend the status quo, and explores the transformative power of love. An old story with strong resonance for today.
