Young Vox

Screen Shot 2018-09-14 at 18.17.21Your chance to come and sing with Young Vox

An exciting opportunity to join our North London children’s choir.

Who are we?

We are a friendly and welcoming local children’s choir open to everyone aged 7 to 13 who wants to make great music. We have two bases: in Stoke Newington and in Holloway. Sometimes we sing on our own and sometimes with the adult choir Vox Holloway. We perform regularly with professional musicians, and have just recorded our first album. Our director is Harvey Brough, a seriously impressive composer (though we say it ourselves), who manages to be demanding and nice at the same time – how does he manage that?

Our most recent concert

On 28 October 2018 with our parent choir, Vox Holloway, we presented a brand new arrangement of The Village Green Preservation Society,  a famous – and fun –  album from the legendary pop group, The Kinks.

It was arranged specially for us by Harvey with the blessing of the Kinks’ own Ray Davies who turned up to join us on the night.  Here we are singing!

What next for Young Vox?

In the second half of the term, we will be preparing for our Christmas Concert, on the evening of Friday 7 December 2018.  There is still time to join us for this concert if you want!

When and where?

YoungVoxN7 meets at St Luke’s Church, Holloway,  on TUESDAYS from 4.30 to 5.30pm under the direction of Rick Leigh.

YoungVox16 rehearses at The Old Church in Stoke Newington on THURSDAYS from 4pm to 5pm in term time, under the direction of Harvey Brough.

This term runs from 13 September to 7 December 2018.

The Christmas concert is on the evening of Friday 7 December and there will be a short rehearsal beforehand at 5.30pm

Both concerts will be at St Luke’s .

Who can join?

Anyone aged 7 to 13 can join – no previous experience is necessary. There are no auditions and you can come along for a FREE session before you decide to stay.
Once you decide to join we expect you to do your best to attend all rehearsals. We will learn partly by ear, partly with music (provided).

BUT (scary drumroll) YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR THE CONCERTS

How much will it cost?

We will charge £60 for the term to cover our cost of hiring rehearsal space – but no one is excluded if they don’t have the funds.  If you join us in November for the Christmas concert, the fee is £25.

Young Vox is part of Vox Holloway (N7 Community Choir) – a registered charity

Message from Harvey:

Following our excellent performance of Sergeant Pepper to a packed house in the Old Church, Young Vox had an AMAZING opportunity to sing in a new choral version of the 1968 Kinks Album – We are the Village Green Preservation Society for the legendary Ray Davies.

On 28 October we were proud to perform this new fantastic new oratorio, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its release, along with soloists Clara Sanabras, Rick Leigh, the 120 voices of Vox Holloway and the David le Page Ensemble (12 professional players, many of whom were with us for Sgt Pepper and our previous premiere, Thecla).
